21 Nov 2017 Royal Park, Mauritius

A Meeting with Artur Simes

Before you lived in Mauritius, where did you call home?

I’m originally from Portugal where I lived and worked for 25 years. Just before moving to Mauritius I was working in Mozambique. I’ve been in the iternational real estate sector for 16 years and have been involved in similar resort developments to Royal Park. In Portugal, I set up my own business to provide expert services to clients buying and selling property in the country’s most popular resort locations and in Mozambique I started a real estate investment company.

What originally attracted you to Mauritius?

It was a unique opportunity from a professional perspective in terms of its dynamic economy and buoyant real estate market. I found a very good set up at Royal Park for what I had to do and, on my first visit to the estate, I was dazzled by its beauty and serenity. The views of the Moka mountain range and the magical Northwest sunsets make its location quite unique on the island.

Where do you live on the island and why?

I live in Pointe aux Canonniers near the bustling village of Grand Baie. It is close to where I work in Balaclava and it’s a place that offers a huge range of water sports, activities and restaurants.

What do you do in your spare time?

If I’m not catching-up with my wife and kids who are in Portugal, I am socializing with Mauritians and other expats. I love surfing in Pointe aux Piments, swimming in the azure lagoon of Trou aux Biches and hiking in the mountain – the view from Mountain Le Pouce is breathtaking!

What tip would you give to anyone visiting Mauritius?

Don’t just stay at your hotel, make sure to go out and explore all of the island and what it has to offer. Boat trips are a must in Mauritius, as is a visit to the northern islands. You must also discover the traditional Mauritian food at the island’s local restaurants.

How does Royal Park stand out from its competitors on the island?

Royal Park promotes a unique community philosophy that can’t be found at any other residential projects. It’s important to us that our international buyers experience the true Mauritian culture and that our Mauritian residents enjoy living with neighbours from around the world. It’s unique location, affordable pricing, architecture by renowned architects and excellent services set it apart from the rest.

How would you describe the long term vision for Royal Park?

Royal Park is a both a residential and beach resort appealing to those who come for a holiday, aswell as those who settle permanently on the island. It will be an iconic destination that will suit all age groups with different interests.
